'500,000 Killowatts' was a part of the larger project 'Softly softly safe House' in Safe house in Peckham, London. This installation aimed to use the environment of Safe house, a building made structurally safe but left visually abandoned, as primary research for the artwork.
The installation combines elements of the classic films 'Singing in the Rain' and 'The King and I' in a video projection. The installation also features a ladder with a purple dress and a recontextualized plastic blue sheet from a previous performance.
The installation was influenced by the rugged, abandoned aesthetic of the space and draws from a scene in 'Singin in the Rain' where a character creates a movie set around another character.
